Wake up in Helsinki at 5:00 this Tuesday morning to catch a 8:00 flight to Munich.
We have booked a rental car from Munich airport for the next 10 days. We booked a VW Golf online, via autoeurope.com, from Avis but ended up with a Ford Focus as we informed that we are going to Slovenia and Croatia (as old east block countries). The Focus was brand new so no complaints there.
Destination of Day 1 is Ljubljana, Slovenia. We drove via roads 99 and A8 towards Austria and Salzburg, but didn’t go into Salzburg but headed via A2 towards Villach. We had a first short pitstop after roughly 1 hour drive, on the German side.
We got our vingettes both for Austria and Slovenia here already as well.
2nd short stop was in Austria to admire the mountains by the road. As we’ll be back in Austria later, we stayed on the main roads to reach  Ljubljana in decent time.

Plan is to stay in Ljublijana for one night. Total km driven today was approximately 460km.
This night we’ll stay at “B&B By The Way“a bit outside the city. It was easy to get to, but a bit tricky to find the exact house. Small, but recently renovated, and clean BnB.
After checking in (check in open here 18:00-20:00) we headed into the city center. The absolute centre is full of people, locals and tourists. The narrow streets and old buildings are blooming by all the cosy restaurants and terraces as well as small shops. We had a bite to eat at a resturant called Aroma and continued walking around taking in the wibe of the old town for a few hours before heading back to the BnB to get some rest for Day 2.
